the clapping hands of insolent children the smiles that say anything but delight the sweat that settles in frigid pools over the craters of your skin the dishonesties spoken in earnest the clams baked out of their shells the eyes that roll about their sockets swelt'ringly swallowed by glory the weight of an ocean upon you the greatness of sandy grains the time you vomit out thankless tasks the pennies they pay for your pains the envy of someone yet greater the jealousy of the pauper at night the long-suffering of a God who is with us in spite out insistance to parting the hair that is singed by a candle the light that is carried by a face the countenance that admits no defeat and so scorns the human embrace the Kingdom of Heaven within you the Kingdom of Heaven without the eyes of a conch yet alive in his shell loosened from sight by small hammers the door that cannot close tightly the door forever locked the oysters that die before eating the lobster that eats his own skin the sharks that are circling the Throne Room gnashing their parapet teeth hands reaching for comfort smiles singing all's understood scallops in butter euphoric cheers to wash it all down
